The Power of Words

One of the most unforgettable moments in the life of a mother is when her baby utters its first word clearly. Slowly these words multiply in number every day till the child has a solid vocabulary to choose from. And so does their power…

The way words can influence us, hardly anything else can. In our choice of combination, they are like a multi-edged sword which can effect just the right emotion in somebody. The force with which they are used result in the magnitude of their effect.

Words can heal. I have a friend who has just the right quotes for any situation. They have a unique way of calming down the storm inside me.

Words can hurt. It is said that people forget what you say to them or do for them but they will never forget how you make them feel. It is the sad truth of life that we carry hurt inside us for longer durations compared to any other feeling.

Words can make us happy. True happiness is so rare. Interestingly, it is the words of someone that trigger that emotion in us mostly. Think of a happy memory of yours. You may remember the sequence of events well but somewhere in between, what was said to you will always be the highlight of the memory.

If someone else’s words are so influential in our life, we must remember that we yield this same power over everyone we meet. It is as much a boon as a bane. So be careful with your words. Be careful with its power.

With great power comes great responsibility.
