Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Sansa or the Night King or someone else? Who will finally win the Game of Thrones? How will the tale of gore, cold betrayal and heartache finally end?
Now that the post-production stage of Game of Thrones is in full swing and the different actors are going on to experiment with different looks, one thing is clear. The end has been written and shot. In a few months from now, we would all get to see it. As fans worldwide brace themselves for it, keeping a sharp eye on the visible small developments, each of them comes up with their own theory. They root for their favourite character and what they think deserves to be the end.
All the while, one fact remains. It is a story. Stories are meant to entertain. It is not just about the right or wrong. It is about the journey to it. That is where lies a master storyteller’s finesse. Which is why I couldn’t agree more with the author of the books, George R. R. Martin when he described the ending in one word – bittersweet.
While some people thought that there couldn’t be a more generalised statement, I guess it sums it all. According to me, it means that in order to win some, you lose some. Nobody ever gets to have it all. The seven kingdoms will finally get to see the advent of a new good era with the right person as its head. But it would all come at a very heavy cost, almost unforgettable!
Now the obvious question arises as to who the “right person” will be. If we see the graph of the series, there were many right people. From Ned Stark to Robb Stark to Renly Baratheon, many were brutally murdered. From Arya Stark to Sansa Stark to Jaime Lannister, many were quietly sidelined. From Cersei Lannister to Melisandre to Euron Greyjoy, many were painted way too evil, lest any drop of doubt about their intentions be left in the audience’s mind. Very, very few remained who refused to budge from a prospective winner’s position – Daenerys Stormborn of house Targaryen, Jon Snow / Aegon Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister.
There is a very strong possibility of one of these three to survive the series of bloodshed and sit on the Iron Throne. Given the fact that they are all now fighting on the same side, the possibility of them all surviving together is, however, very slim or rather non-existent. That is one of the many reasons which could make the well-meant, worked hard for, sweet success bitter after all.
As a member of the audience, all I can do is wait for the suspense to unfold as the power to determine the ultimate fate of the story lies in the hand of the writers. But I can guess, for sure! And I put my finger on Daenerys. Why? Because she deserves it more than anyone else!
