Compliment or Not

“Am I supposed to take it as a compliment? Or not?”

Sometimes said aloud, sometimes thought silently, the above line resonates with most of us. At times, people say such smartly-phrased things that we don’t really know what to make of them. If they were positive or negative remains unclear. Worse still, there are times when we suspect a comment rolled in a compliment’s cover.

So what do we do then? Should we dissect it in our brain, word by word and try to find out by ourselves? Or should we just ask the person outright, even at the risk of sounding like an idiot?

I think that the best way out is to just smile and say, “Thank you.” No matter what they meant, we can always be positive, especially about ourselves. And be at peace.

Like someone once said to me, “I look like a football yet I feel fabulous!” What you feel makes all the difference.
