Sometimes, extraordinarily off-tune.

Not meant to please everyone,
Not meant about just anyone,
Not always ethically right,
Just composed on a whim,

For every ocassion,
A different twist
For every ending,
So goes the song of the heart.
A short jingle
In times of haste,
An opera performance
When into the groove,
So goes the song of the heart.
When brimming with joy,
Heart-warming to hear.
When bleeding with hurt,
A painful jolt for the senses.
So goes the song of the heart.
My song is mine,
Your song is yours.
When someone hears it right
Is when magic is created
From the song of the heart.
Evocatively expressive, Mia, of the seas that alternately stir and quell our souls.
Your observation near the end about “hear(ing) it right” gives everything meaning. No matter how ridiculously off-key the heart beats, it sings beautifully in tune when another’s music coincides.
While the heart’s resonance is our very own, it gains delightful purpose when others echo it. We are social creatures after all, and finding others just like us (at least during that one heartbeat of a moment) is wonderfully affirming.

This is the internet’s excellence, allowing such discoveries. Yes, it (the internet) creates much mischief as well, but so too did printing presses half a millennium ago.
Even a generation ago, our intellectual universe was limited to, “I know a guy, whose wife’s sister is friends with someone who…” It doesn’t quite resonate as truly, does it?

Mia, your poem is beautiful. I love the refrain and titular phrase: “So goes the song of the heart.” It’s very interesting to think about, especially because the heart’s rhythm is a tune all of itself, and I’ve never considered that before. Amazing imagery!
Your third stanza stands out to me the most. “A different composition / For every occasion / A different twist / For every ending, / So goes the song of the heart.” BRILLIANT! This encapsulates the changing nature of our hearts, and the fact that the music or tune can change too.
