The path is long.
It will tire out the legs soon.
But I am willing to walk
All the way long,
If you walk with me.
The path is twisted.
It changes direction like the wind.
But I am fine
With all the confusion,
If you walk with me.
The path is rocky.
It will make the feet ache.
But I can tolerate
This horrible pain,
If you walk with me.
The path is untrodden.
There will be surprises.
But I am prepared
For the pleasant and not,
If you walk with me.
The path is doomed,
Many have earnestly warned.
But I am okay
With the risks,
If you walk with me.
The path has never been anyone’s.
It could be ours.
If you are willing
As I am,
Then dear, walk with me.
That’s the path of uncertainty. I hope you get a companion π

What you’re asking is difficult. Hard to leave behind whatever, and to follow. And i have a path to follow, also, my own. And a cross to carry on my shoulders, my own. I wish i’d met you before. Now, it’s late. Now i’m on my own. Strong ? I don’t know. It is me, my cross, and death. All alone. I better be strong.

Well, that’s quite an interpretation of it. A little unexpected, I must admit…
Don’t worry. I get the sarcasm. π
Wonderful to hear from you after do long, Outosego! Thank you so much for commenting. π

You may, also, see it as a sincere answer, or as an info of where i am at the moment, and not necessarily as an interpretation or sarcasm.
Ps : It is always nice reading and talking to you, Mia.

Oh, oh. I really don’t know what to say to that then. Don’t worry. It will all be fine, eventually. Try to stay strong. You will get through whatever it is.
Likewise.

I would venture along, so long- as you wait should I fall a bit behind. π

Yeah, that’s another part of journeying with someone. The waiting for the other to catch up. But it’s these small things that make the journey what it becomes. Good point!

Okay but isn’t that song more hung on to the inner sadness and turmoil one faces when they are not certain of the person they have been walking with for long? My poem though, is about asking someone to start a journey together, accepting that it’s not going to be easy but still. π It’s about wanting to start to be with that one person. Hence the repetitive “if.”
Come on, it’s more positive!

Yes, that uncertainty is probably what I was getting at when I thought of it for some reason. Maybe it was just the feeling of it I got reminded of. βΊοΈ

Clearly, Mia, having someone along for the journey provides a boost and allows us to endure/accomplish more than we could alone.
It’s important, too, to remember that many can make the journey with us. While a “significant other” or BFF usually provides the greatest single benefit, other resources are available too. These traveling companions ebb and flow, changing over time, but they must be included in your inventory.
After all, aren’t you yourself part of a few roving bands of supporters and encouragers?

Thank you so much for your wonderful input, Keith! π
Yes, life is indeed what it is because of the support of many. So am I supporting others, knowingly and unknowingly. Let’s all try to remember as many as we can.

Yes, indeed, Mia! We are social creatures, and we’ve developed communications to an almost-divine resonance.
A combination that places us among the most fortunate, and suits us well to sweeten life’s journey.

Beautiful writing, well thought out and constructed, strong rhythmic flow with the repeated question, just great work overall. Reminds me of the saying about ‘if’ being the middle word in ‘life’. π

Yes, “if” is indeed in the middle of about everything in life. But let each of us take the risk!

This could be read at a wedding as much of these words are true when sharing life even with your best friend. I love this. Hugs Joni

Thank you so much for thinking so, Joni! That’s so humbling for me. π€ So glad that you loved it.
You are very right. We make life – altering journeys with not just a romantic partner but also friends. Actually, they have been walking longer with us! π
Hey, in case you actually decide to read it somewhere, please do mention the poet. It would mean the world to me! π
