Distance

Sometimes, distance is good.
It can bring people closer.
Closer than they were
When they could actually
Feel one another.

Sometimes, distance is good.
It can make the other side look greener.
Greener than it ever seemed
When they were together
On one side.

Sometimes, distance is good.
It can help take a breather.
Better to breathe and think clearly
Than rushing into the wrong,
Just to keep up.

Sometimes, distance is good.
It can make us want to cherish
Whatever we get in the future,
As in the present, all we have
Are strands of past to hang by.

Sometimes, distance is good.
It can save one from Corona.
Rather be safe than sorry.
Rather protect others than endanger.
Rather wait.

  1. Exactly, Mia. While distance isn’t, perhaps, the ideal circumstance for relationships (of various stripes) going forward, now and always, it does have benefits in the short term. Specifically, it clears our interactions of the distractions immediacy brings.

Without these conditions being present to divert our attention and our emotional energy, we can focus on the factors that accrue to a relationship’s benefit.

The current isolation is a pile of lemons. And what you describe is the lemonade we’ve made from them. We always adapt, we always find a way, don’t we?

  2. Distance does bring us more together. It maybe that we care for them at this time or that we are just bored. Either way it is good and, I am making more contacts then before. Great poem.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by to comment & appreciate, Geri! 🙂

Yes, we can find a bright side to anything if we look hard enough. Hopefully, we will be more connected than before to the ones who really matter to us after this pandemic too.
