Happiness is NOT Difficult

Happiness is not difficult.
It is as easy
As we are ready to let go
Of inhibitions,
Of expectations,
Of rules.

Happiness is not difficult.
It can come to anyone
Who wants it
No matter where,
No matter when,
No matter how.

Happiness is not difficult.
It is as ample
As we make it
Even if we fail once,
Even if we fail twice,
Even if we fail again and again.

Happiness is not difficult.
The word may be long
But the way is short.
Do look well,
Do listen well,
Do what you want.

Happiness is not difficult.
It is just made out to be
By they who are not ready for it.
But you are.
But you always were.
But you will always be.

Happiness is not difficult.
What is difficult
Is how to go about it.
By not thinking too much,
By not explaining too much,
By not just wishing.

Happiness is not difficult.
It begins with
The smallest of steps:
A smile,
A hand,
A heart.

    1. Thank you so much for your appreciation, Gabriella! 🙂
Your comment ended up in my spam folder, which is why I’m replying late. It has never happened before with your comments, so I wonder why…

  1. As usual, Mia, your direct words do little to hide the profound message within.

When you get down to it, we all (or most of us, at least) want to be happy, yet… Yet, we often let someone stand in the way.

Perhaps it’s an unobtained love; without him or her, where is life’s sweetness?

Maybe, in contrast, it’s a resentment. If my “enemy” is happy, I can’t be.

In both cases, we want to be happy, but we have to run things by the gatekeeper first. Won’t work, though, if we insist on making our happiness dependent on someone else.

The easiest route to satisfaction is to base your joy not on a person, but on a thing. Namely, gratitude. Delight in what you have right now, and the rest will follow.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Keith! 🙂

Exactly, our happiness depends on us. Who doesn’t want to be happy? But it needs effort, on our part. It won’t just happen. Instead of looking for excuses of wallowing in sadness, we have to get up and start somewhere. Gratitude is the best starting point.

  2. Hi Mia … I am a little late here with a comment on this recent post of yours, and the words contained in your poetry. As you know I have been an infrequent visitor and contributor to WordPress lately, and I often don’t get around to reading my WP Reader for a couple of days, sometimes even a week or two. There was a reason I waited to see this post, it’s become clear to me. Thank you for your words this morning.

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”

    1. You are welcome, Keith. I’m happy that the words in my poem could resonate with you. 🙂

Yes, Mr. Bennett is absolutely right. It’s all a choice. If you choose it, we will be so.

  3. How long did it take you to come to these conclusions about happiness? Was it something that you always just new or did you just get tired of always trying to chase what was always there for the get go? I am just curious !! I love your poem, it’s truly beautiful!!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, dear! It would be nice if I could know your name. 🙂

Life teaches us stuff. Stuff we didn’t expect. Stuff we always knew but sort of forgot over time. So yes, it is a blend of the two scenarios you guessed. 😊
