You are my father.
My protector,
My guide,
You are the pillar
That I know won’t let me fall.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my daughter.
My baby,
My pride,
You are the reason
That I try so hard.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my father.
The first man I loved,
The first man who loved me.
You will always hold that place,
No matter how old I get.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my daughter.
The first girl I loved truly unconditionally.
The love at first sight for me.
You will always remain so,
No matter what you do.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my father.
I might disappoint you.
I might infuriate you.
You will always think I am not
Taking care of myself like you would.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my daughter.
I might irritate you.
I might push you too hard.
You will misunderstand me
Even if I try to be as clear as possible.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my father.
Imperfect as I am,
Imperfect as you are,
I know you mean well.
You really do know me well.
You are the blood of my blood.
You are my daughter.
Imperfect as we are,
Imperfect we will always stay.
One call away is what we are.
You know you can count on me.
You are the blood of my blood.

Beautiful duality, Mia, expressing specifically why today is a milestone for all, but particularly so for fathers and daughters.
You’re only half that relationship, Mia, yet somehow you capture it completely.
Why does this surprise me? It absolutely shouldn’t, as you are uncommonly perceptive. Your father has much reason to be proud today.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Keith! Especially the ones about my father being proud! 😊🤗 If you have children, then I am sure you too would be a father your kids will be proud of. They have every reason to be!
I wrote the poem as between a father and a daughter because that is the relationship I know. But hey, I’m sure a father and son would also cherish something equally special, in their own way. 🙂

That’s true, Mia, though due to typical male stoicism, reserve, reticence…whatever you call it, we’re less likely to be as demonstrative of our feelings as would be two women, or would be a woman and a man
That doesn’t mean those feelings don’t exist, and my father and I prove they do, we (guys) are less likely to raise a fuss. Best to leave things unspoken, as is so much in our universe. .

Everyone loves in their own way. As long as love exists, nothing else matters. To our fathers! 🙂
