Story Written in the Stars

What if our story
Was predestined,
Was written in the stars?

What if its end
Was already decided,
Was sketched out in detail?

What if our love
Was doomed from the start,
Was futile to fight for?

What if our separating
Was not accidental but
Was well-planned?

What if this is it?
Was it all for nothing?
Was it how it always ends?

Yet, let’s be who we are.
Yet, let’s try as hard as we can.
Yet, let’s hope for the best.

For it might be just a story
For the stars light years away,
For them to write away.

This but is our one story.
This but is our one life.
This but is our one love.

  1. I am always looking forward to your posts. This is another beautiful piece — indeed this is all we’ve got. Whatever happens or doesn’t, it’s all we have! And it’s ours : the story, life, love !

      1. Firstly, I’m sorry for the delay in replying because I just found this comment in the spam.
Also, thank you so much for the nomination, dear Anomaly. 🤗 I’m humbled. Although I have to admit that my busy schedule could leave me without the time you might be hoping for. Apologies in advance.

  2. Provocative, Mia, and deeply worth the subsequent ponderings your writing inspires.

Perhaps certain situations are destiny, yet the way we deal with them afterwards, isn’t. Indeed, that’s the ultimate test. Not the initial circumstances, but what we do with them. Maybe Chapter One already is written, but the rest of the pages still are blank.

Much happens to influence the subsequent narrative, but still, we have much to say about whether or not the story is a happy one.

No, I don’t believe everything is preordained. That’s why we have our minds, our humanity, to keep the narrative going and, quite often, to alter its course.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Keith! 🙂

I agree with you. I am also someone who doesn’t believe in fate. I think that if we want something, we have to work towards it and there is no power that can stop us from getting there. 😎
Yet for this poem, I decided to take the opposite approach & then tried to converge it at the end with my real school of thought.

  3. Finding love can be fated. Though whether the story of two lovers turns out good or bad, I believe rests on their mutual efforts in maintaining the sincerity of that love as well as the long lasting prospect of that love.
    Lovely poem, Mia💚
