Talk to me of anything,
If you please, everything
But love.
It is a topic over-exploited,
More like an onion too sauteed.
What is it with everyone,
Each relative and that unknown bun,
Who lives in “loveland?”
Don’t they have anything else to think?
Is this the only way they find to sink?
Talk to me of nature —
Diversified in its great stature,
Of rivers and moors,
Of stars and animal-kinds.
But don’t say in it love one finds.
Talk to me of art —
Right from the very start,
Of how it changed,
Of how it is going on.
But don’t say it’s mostly love gone.
Talk to me of hard facts —
Whether science or maths,
Of beam and experiment,
Of theory and equation.
But don’t say usually love is the solution.
Talk to me of life —
Happiness and strife,
Of the impressionable past,
Of the future you imagine.
But don’t say it’s love that it’s dripping in.
Talk to me of hate —
For that lies surely in wait,
Of oneself and others,
Of the known and unknown.
But don’t say it’s because there, love is not fully grown.
Talk to me of a topic
Not so myopic
As love.
For I have heard enough already.
Now I wish to make my head steady.
If still insistent,
In your “for love” endeavour persistent,
Then one chance I give you.
Show me love.
Don’t just lecture me on love.
Show love to the one who loves you.
Show love to the one who hurts you.
If still left with more,
Show some love to yourself.
But prior, don’t talk to me of love by itself.
Beautiful lines

Well written. I do not say much about love in the romantic way very much. I will say what holds a man and wife together is Jesus and commitment.

So, is love the most beautiful feeling or the most fearful emotion?

In my opinion, just like anything else that actually gets somewhere, love needs courage. Of the crazy kind or the benevolent kind, but some kind of courage. Mix love with courage and one could find something really beautiful. ❤

And about your second reply; you have summarised the love in the best possible way🙂.

Yes, I’m good. Also, I’m glad to know that my readers look forward to what I write. 😊
From the experience of our previous exchanges, I hardly thought you would come around so easily! 😅 But I’m happy that we are on the same ground here.

This is such an amazing poem, Mia…”Show love to the one who loves you. Show love to the one who hurts you.”….powerful lines….this is what is needed….it’s always easy to preach about love….but when it comes to real stuff….the ego comes in the way….people hide in their shallow hole….beautiful poem, Mia ✨

Thank you so much for your generous words of praise, Navin! 🙂
Yes, you are right. Ego is indeed the death of love. Expressing how one feels needs more courage than just shoving it away. Practicing is way more important than preaching.

Beautiful progression, Mia. Down the path we go, pretty sure of where we’re headed, but toward the end, a twist.
Nothing overly jarring, mind you, but sufficient to bring us somewhere unexpected. Expert leadership, tour guide!
Of course, then, no more talk of love. Time instead for acts of love. We’ve talked the talk. Plenty.
Now it’s time to walk the walk. Let that love glow, and it will give everything else – Nature, Science, Life, Art – a renewed resplendence.
Astute observations, Mia!

Don’t you worry. Even most of my posts revolve around the phenomenon called love. If at all, I am the irony here! 😅 Just wanted to make this a little different emphasizing that our words must match our actions.
