Old With New

You ask me to shed away
The old me
For a new dawn.
But how can it be?

You want me to transform
All anew
Like everything around.
But is that why I grew?

You say it’s the fashion
To discard
To drape the new.
But why for me it’s hard?

For my past is a big part
Of who I am.
It was a process,
Not an overnight ‘bam.’

It will always
Be here to stay,
To merge with the new,
Even if by you it’s not okay.

So time, to you I say,
I’ll move forward with you,
Still holding close
The old with the new.

Happy New Year 2020 to all my fellow bloggers! πŸ™‚ Last year on WordPress was great. Let’s make this one even better for each other with our posts! πŸ˜‡

  1. First the obvious – Happy New Year, Mia (and also, to the others in the audience)!

With that, you certainly did your part by greeting 2020 with beautiful, insightful writing.

You make a point all too easy forgotten in the excitement – there was much we gained last year too, and we want to keep that, thank you. Plenty of experiences, good and bad, memorialized last year.

Yes, the rubbish people just left, taking the trash with them to oblivion. That’s what the fresh start is for. Also, though, we recycled the recyclables. Back to us someday, clean and new.

That accomplished, let’s head back in to the warmth, where we continue to savor last year’s gifts. They’ll help make 2020 better than 2019 ever was.

As our friends in New York say, onward and upward!

Yes, let’s take on the good and leave out the bad! Onward and upward, indeed!
