A parent, spouse, child, friend
Or someone who is still no one,
It could be anyone.
If you love someone,
Tell them.
A smile, gesture, word
Or something you can’t understand,
It could be anything.
If you love someone,
Tell them.
No point keeping silent,
No point waiting,
No point in anything else.
If you love someone,
Tell them.
Yes, actions speak volumes.
Yes, some things are just understood.
But why so miserly with words?
If you love someone,
Tell them.
Our hearts will break,
No matter what we do.
So why go down without even trying?
If you love someone,
Tell them.
Don’t think too much.
Don’t do too much.
Don’t delay too much.
If you love someone,
Just tell them.
That’s the way and the only way!

Great advice. All too often fear is the biggest blockade to honest emotion. Cheers Mia. Allan

Thank you so much, Allan! βΊ
You are right. Fear keeps us from our happiness, making us think again and again of what if we land with sadness. We must let our emotions flow. Cheers to that!

Exactly, Mia. Your best poem/advice so fat!
A few years ago, cancer took my father almost in an instant, and thinking of how I’d have felt if I’d left things unsaid – mortifying.
Naturally, your thoughts apply to situations much less dire, but which we all face. Equally important then.
Thank you.

Thank you so much, Keith for that compliment! π You have actually been following my posts for sometime and so I can count on your judgement.
About your father, I’m really sorry for your loss. But I’m glad that you don’t have anything to be mortified of now as you made good use of the time the two of you got together. That’s a blessing.

Every small thing finally adds up to something big in life. Or so I believe. Let’s take it one small step at a time so that like you, we don’t have any regrets later. π

Exactly, Mia! Even the “small” things are threads that weave the tapestry and give it a special luster.
As for regrets, we all have them because, hey, we all make mistakes. Constantly. Fortunately for us, the narrative continues.
Those mistakes help us to avoid similar pitfalls later. Then, realizing the pain we avoided this time, we celebrate, exhilarated.

If we don’t we will regret.

I struggle with telling the people I love that I love them. It just isn’t done in my culture. Sometimes the words get stuck in my throat. But I manage to get them out anyway.

Good for you that you anyway go ahead and say it! π
Even in my home, it was never really the tradition to say it. We do stuff for each other. But words are also important. I hope to change that when I have a family. π

Yeah, same. We never grew up saying it because it was never part of my culture. But my mom started changing that as we became adults, so it’s not natural to me but i’m working on it.

Yes, fear keeps us from so much. But what if instead of getting rejected, we find happiness?

True. Being positive – like your verses should be the way of life βΊοΈ

Gunjan, this comment of yours means a lot! For you called my verses “positive.” I have actually been making an effort in that direction, so this is a reiteration that it’s paying off. Thanks a ton! ππ

Wow! That is wonderfully composed and told. Yes, the time to tell someone that you love them is today and there is no use waiting.

It is the fear that we must anyhow get rid of. For what if instead of rejection, the chance we take brings us all the happiness we want? βΊ

Telling someone or someones you love them can be as good for you as for them. If it seems awkward given the situation, show them in a way that conveys the message.
Thank you for liking my poem!

You are so right, Alan! When you tell someone that you love them, you are doing yourself as much a favour. It is so much better than living in anticipation or suspense of what could be! Thanks for the comment. π
You are most welcome.
